The area is known for its lovely and dramatic nature, and for its' vibrant cultural life, making it a perfect destination for people wanting an active vacation and for those who seek to relax alike. The Hardanger fjord is 179 kilometers (or 111 miles) long, and the third longest fjord of the world.

Kvam is one of the munipalities situated on the fjord, and is situated on its' northern and western side. In Kvam, many experiences await:

  • Steinsdalsfossen: This waterfall, situated two kilometers from Norheimsund, and near provincial road nr. 7 (Fv7), is one of Norway's most visited waterfalls. One of the reasons? A short walking path leads up to the waterfall and allows you to walk behind it!
  • Fyksesund landscape park: Gorgeous Fyksesund is an area well-worth visiting for nature and cultural experiences, featuring marked hiking trails and a caféteria.
  • The Kabuso Art Centre in Øystese (Hardangerfjordvegen 626): Kabuso offers temporary exhibitions and concerts throghout the year. The art centre also sports a caféteria, serving home made cakes, light lunches, coffee etc. You can also visit the Ingebrigt Vik museum, a sculpture park with a collection of works by one of Norway's finest sculptors.
  • Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter: The living maritime museum Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter offers maritime workshops and activities for all. The museum offers a variety of exhibitions and films, and you can buy handicraft products and homemade snacks. The maritime museum is situated in the centre of Norheimsund. You can find more information on their web site.
