School of music and performing arts

The Kvam school of music and performing arts (Kvam kulturskule) offers education within various forms of cultural expression, and seeks to develop the artistic skills and talents of each of its' pupils. 

Kvam kulturskule has open admission, but may have waiting lists, due to economical or staffing reasons. Applicants under the age of 20 are given priority. 

In order to attend Kvam kulturskule, one must apply for a spot through the application portal (Norwegian only). The yearly application deadline is May 1. If one wishes to keep the spot the following year, this must be confirmed in the re-registration portal. Ordinary teaching in Kvam kulturskule follows the primary school. The first week after summer holidays are devoted to information meetings and scheduling, and no classes are held on the last school days before Christmas and summer holidays. Visual art subjects have concentrated school years, where teaching takes place over 11 weeks per semester. 

Enlisting for a spot in Kvam kulturskule is binding for one semester, meaning that the spot will have to be paid in full if one has not withdrawn within the deadlines. Withdrawing from a spot must take place through notifying the kulturskule-principal within December 1 for the spring semester, and in connection with re-registration within May 1 for the fall semester. 

Pupils in Kvam kulturskule receive instruction in the discipline in which they are allocated space. They may also be offered to attend various events under the auspices of the school of music and performing arts, or where the school participates. The Kvam school of music and performing arts offer education within a range of disciplines, including:

  • Various musical instruments (wind instruments, string instruments, bowed string instruments, piano, percussion and the diatonic button accordion or torader)
  • Music production
  • Animation
  • Dance
  • Song
  • Video / photo
  • Visual arts

It also has a special offer for children of 4 to 6 years of age, Nøringen, and for children attending the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of primary school, Kulturkarusell, where the children are introduced to various forms of cultural expression. 

Pupils are expected to acquire instruments and text books themselves. Some instruments can be rented from the school. 

Prices:

The prices for participating in the school of music and performing arts are set by the municipal council, and are vaild for a year. Per august 2019 the following prices apply:

  • 1870 NOK per semester for pupils below 20 years of age
  • 935 NOK per semester for instruction given in groups, 45 minutes per week
  • 2380 NOK per semester for puplis above 20 years of age
  • 532 NOK for shorter courses (5 hours)
  • 261 NOK per semester for renting an instrument from the school

A rebate is given if several children in a family is attending the school. The first sibling pays 100 per cent, while siblings pay 75 per cent of the price. If a pupil has more than one spot (i.e. follows more than one course, the rebate does not apply to the second course).
